QUARTERLY REPORT
Redfish eat ‘em and so does the mighty snook. Speaking of snook, they are still around the mouths of the bigger estuary systems usually in January they are normally ½ way to Land O Lakes (inland). If you don’t find the few bait schools left behind, select shrimp and pinfish work well. Artificials that also work are ¼ oz. Jig with a variety of colors depending on water clarity and color in 3” shrimp & shad tails, silver spoons, topwater plugs for the nice trout on shallow water flats and 5” jerk baits rigged
Well here we are in the middle of January and water temperatures are for the most part in the mid to upper sixties. There are still some schools of pilchards around here and there and they work wonders when available. There are still nice schools of trout around that hit a Greenie (pilchard) as soon as it hits the water.
Each spring and late winter when all of our beautiful trees and shrubbery begin to pollinate and leave lime colored particles everywhere, anglers throughout Florida begin to re-line their rods and clean up their tackle boxes, equipment, etc. This also marks the time when schools of pilchards, threadfin herring, cigar minnows and scaled sardines make their presence on our west central Gulf coast and bays. Like clockwork all of the predator species, including tarpon, snook, redfish gator trout, cobia kingfish Spanish mackerel, Jack Crevalle and more, feel the water temperatures rising and get the itch to feed heavily on the natural bait run. It’s been a long chilly winter and they know it’s time to gorge themselves and move about to ambush areas on and off our shorelines. It’s a yearly occurrence, just like paying taxes, and fish start to show up right about this same time each year. Our winter fishing was excellent for certain species, but the smorgasbord for all our fin and tailed buddies is about to begin! C’mon now and catch your inshore slam & a memory!

For instance, our common snook
World-class tarpon fishing on spin, plug, fly and conventional gear is to be had In Boca Grande, known as the Tarpon Fishing Capital of the World. At any give time in the prime migration months of May and June, there are thousands of tarpon in and around the passes,
beaches, and barrier islands ready to do battle with anglers from around the world. Catch these hard fighting acrobatic fish from 50 to 200 pounds! Hard runs, incredible leaps and gill rattling, heart-pounding excitement is to be had. The tarpon opens the gallon bucket of a mouth and inhales whatever is on the end of your line. You wait that long second for her to turn sideways, back to join her companions, then tighten the line, feel the ponderous weight, and snatch the point home with a mighty tug on the line and hold on for the show! Be sure to bow to The King when this fish explodes from the surface. We will be in Boca Grande this year from the 1st of May through June 30th fishing the famous pass, beaches, harbor and Pine Island Sound on conventional, spin & bait casting rigs using live & artificial baits-BOCA GRANDE, WORLD’S GREATEST TARPON FISHING!!!

trout all in the same day. What an accomplishment! The ever-present sneaky, shallow minded redfish and trout will be on hand all spring and summer to fill in for the snook and tarpon at times. It will be full of excitement stalking these gamesters in shallow water, with crusing schools of fish, cast to these gamesters on our state of the art light tackle rods and be ready for a tough fight to the finish. Many say the redfish have 4-wheel drive and those gator trout are sometimes the hardest flats fish to finish due to their clever tactics. They were great fish to catch this winter and will be even more plentiful and fun in the warmer weather. The
